Reyman Gemological Services appraises all watches and pocket watches including luxury watches such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piquet, and Vacheron Constantin. This includes new, used, vintage, antique, and collectors watches.
An appraisal starts with a very thorough examination of the watch in question. This means examination of the case, bracelet, and occasionally the movement. For a Rolex and some other brands, we can also authenticate the watch. From there, we take down a description and the specifications of the watch and take a photograph. Finally, we do pricing research. There are numerous purposes for an appraisal and there are also many different ways to price it out depending on the situation and the intended purpose of the appraisal.
A current appraisal is necessary in order to get insurance coverage for your watch. If you’ve had your watch for a while, we recommend getting an updated appraisal every five years so that as your watch price changes over the years, your insurance coverage will keep up with it. If your watch is brand new, sometimes, a sales receipt is sufficient and you don’t need an appraisal. However, if you purchase certain luxury watches that are in strong demand from an authorized dealer, the price you pay for the watch is the suggested list price and not the current market price which may be quite a bit higher. In that case, an appraisal of your watch for the higher market value would be necessary because many times the chances of you being able to purchase the same model watch again at that lower list price are slim and you would have to repurchase it at the higher market price in the event of a loss.
Some watches (especially Rolex) may be difficult to find on the market and that sometimes one must purchase it for a higher-than-retail price from a non-authorized dealer or a private party. Unfortunately, there are many really good fakes out there. The only way to make sure that the watch you have purchased or intend to purchase is in fact, the real thing, is to have it authenticated. Reyman Gemological Services performs this service on Rolexes and many other brands – all done in front of you – you never have to leave your watch.
Selling your watch can sometimes be very challenging. If you don’t have proper paperwork, it’s almost impossible. No one, of course, will take your word for it on what it is supposed to be. You need proper documentation. With our appraisal report, you can show prospective buyers exactly what you’ve got and how much it’s worth. This will make it easier for you to prove that the watch you are selling is genuine as well as stating its present value, resulting in a quicker sale and a higher return.
Did you inherit a watch but are not sure if it is genuine or a fake? Reyman Gemological Services can examine the watch and let you know for sure one way or another. Many times it turns out not to be real but at least you will finally know the truth about it.
